The journey of H. Ayep Zaki in developing the tempeh industry is an inspiring story of dedication, innovation, and a deep commitment to economic empowerment. As a successful professional in the manufacturing sector, he expanded his business to become an exporter of automotive spare parts to numerous countries around the world. However, his success was not solely for personal gain—it also awakened a sense of empathy and social responsibility, leading him to support others through the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially in the tempeh industry.

With a vision to improve public nutrition and strengthen national food security, H. Ayep Zaki partnered with tempeh artisans to build a high-quality tempeh production industry. He not only provided guidance in the production process but also shared valuable business insights, introduced sound management practices, and emphasized the importance of implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and fostering continuous innovation.

This commitment took shape in 2005 with the establishment of the first tempeh production facility in Sukabumi, West Java. The success of this initiative led to further expansion into various regions, including Palangkaraya (Central Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Pekanbaru (Riau), and Abepura (Papua), eventually reaching more than 80 cities across Indonesia.

Ayep Zaki’s story is living proof that with dedication, innovation, and a strong vision, a business can not only achieve success but also create a lasting positive impact on society. Through the empowerment of SMEs and job creation, he has helped build a self-reliant economy while elevating Indonesian tempeh to new heights on both the national and international stages.

Cucup Ruhiyat: The Co-Founder's Story

Cucup Ruhiyat is the Co-Founder of Tempe Azaki, joining the company in 2015 and playing a strategic role in its development alongside H. Ayep Zaki. With his expertise in production and business management, he has been instrumental in building an efficient operational system, maintaining consistent product quality, and driving innovation within the tempeh industry.

One of his key initiatives was leading Tempe Azaki’s expansion into international markets. He has actively enhanced the product’s global competitiveness by ensuring compliance with various international quality standards. His involvement in national and international food certification processes has enabled Tempe Azaki to meet export requirements and gain recognition abroad.

In 2019, Cucup Ruhiyat founded PT Azaki Food Internasional and assumed the role of CEO. Under his leadership, the company successfully launched its first tempeh export to Japan in 2021—a significant milestone in introducing Indonesian tempeh to the global market.

Together with H. Ayep Zaki, he has guided Tempe Azaki’s growth not only within Indonesia but also in expanding exports to several countries, including Japan and South Korea. His dedication to quality and sustainable business practices has positioned Tempe Azaki as a pioneer in the modern tempeh industry—rooted in SME empowerment and a commitment to national food security.
